In celebration of the cyber security month, the Center for Internet Security (CIS) on the 27th October participated in a knowledge sharing event in Vilnius - „Cyber Defense Lithuania 2015: time to empower your IT security teams". The event was organized by cybersecurity technology consulting, incident response and applied research company NRD CS, together with General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuania Military Academy. The core focus of the event was internal SOC establishment and cyber security workforce skills management in preparation for challenges in 2016 and beyond.
At the conference, the CIS expert Mr Geoff Hancock shared his insights and approach on the application of the CIS Critical Security Controls with over 90 CIOs, security team leads and business executives from Lithuanian government organizations and largest enterprises.
"We are happy that the Center for Internet Security Critical Security Controls for Effective Cyber Defense Version 6.0 are being actively promoted and adopted in Lithuania and Europe. Collaboration with international experts such as NRD CS is one of the key aspects to keep the CIS Critical Security Controls always relevant and up-to-date," said CIS Senior Vice President Tony Sager.
During the event, the participants practiced incident response, self-assessed the security automation in their organizations by mapping them with the CIS Critical Security Controls System Entity Relationship Diagrams, and discussed other issues related to building the cyber defense capacity in their organizations.

The CIS Critical Security Controls are a recommended set of actions for cyber defense that provide specific and actionable ways to thwart the most pervasive cyber attacks. Previously developed as the SANS Institute's Top 20 Critical Security Controls, the Center for Internet Security (CIS) now updates and develops the Controls since its integration with The Council on CyberSecurity in 2015. New versions of the CIS Controls are updated and reviewed through an informal community process including practitioners from government, industry, and academia.
